Fashion Week Street Style

With New York having freezing temperatures during fashion week this year, you can bet that attendees certainly dressed for warmth! Here’s what we saw on the sidewalks of New York Fashion week:

Fur Coats:
Try staying warm this season with a fur coat! Since fur tends to be quite pricey, try donning a faux fur jacket to save the big bucks. A word of caution: If you get stuck in the rain or snow while wearing a fur coat, make sure to take proper care of it and get it cleaned at a professional fur cleaner- not just a regular dry cleaner.

Camo:
Camo jackets can be tricky to pull off, because you want to look fashion forward, instead of on the front lines! Roll up the sleeves, accessorize your jacket with your own pins and patches, and glam it up by wearing a bright lipstick, or sparkly necklace. Since a camo jacket is a trendy statement piece instead of a basic everyday coat, don’t spend too much money. If you want, you can find camo jackets at most thrift stores!

Trench Coats:
How can you go wrong with a classic trench coat and pair of riding boots? This simple style was seen on many fashion week goers and will forever be in style! A trench coat is a basic wardrobe staple; don’t be afraid of splurging to buy a coat that will last longer! You won’t regret it.

Bomber Jackets:
The best part of these fun jackets is that they are so versatile! Try out bomber jackets in different materials until you find your favorite. Feeling like pairing a silky lightweight bomber jacket with your favorite flouncy skirt? Go for it! Or for a comfier look, pair a wool bomber jacket with your best pair of boyfriend jeans.

Destination: Bermuda

If the idea of short shorts fills you with dread, but you still want to partake in summer's favored pant, seek comfort in the Bermuda! This season, Bermudas are hot, especially with cool shoes and accessories. First appearing on the New York catwalks of Marc Jacobs and Alexander Wang, the trend for Bermuda shorts was confirmed by a host of London designers. These knee-length pants, also known as city shorts, crops or knee-pants, will take you from the beach to the mall to work, and everywhere in between… While in the past you might have been reluctant to wear these pieces, this season's turnout is anything but frumpy. Seek guidance from the spring runway and style with feminine or edgy accents. While solid colors, preferably in darker tones, work best for the office, playful prints and denim-styled shorts are great options for more casual settings.

If you have a straight figure, say goodbye to skinny legs and hello to curves. Pair a pleated above-the-knee pair with pointy flats to get a cute flared-skirt effect.  If you are petite look for bermudas with a slim, shorter silhouette, like those at top left, in order to keep you in proportion. It’s also a good idea to stay away from overwhelming prints and patterns. In the same way stilettos dress up jeans, trading in your flip flops for high heels adds a quick style upgrade to Bermuda shorts. For a night out, peep-toe pumps add a heavy dose of retro glamour. For daytime, opt for a more casual wedge or beachy espadrille. As for the most flattering pairs, look for a slim-cut design that tapers down your leg that you can pair with feminine tops like a peplum and high heels. You can also try to top your crops with a tailored blazer, and you'll take your shorts from loungewear to work attire faster than you can say "city shorts." For business dressy offices, choose a jacket in the exact same shade; if your work place has a relaxed dress code, go for a blazer in a fun coordinating pattern.

Fall fashion trends to rock now!

This past week was Fashion Week in New York City, where the biggest designers showed off their collections that will set the pace for the Fall 2014 season. Read on to be in the know on the biggest trends and with the weather forecast of less than 50°F for the next week, you can wear some of these trends right now!

Graphic Furs:
As if wearing fur wasn’t a big enough statement piece, designers are taking it up a notch by incorporating graphic print furs to our fall wardrobes. Keep an eye out for fur jackets with gridlines, zigzag patterns, and abstract shapes. Be fierce with a graphic fur this upcoming season!

Feathers:
Take flight this season with a feathered clothing piece! Designers turned out feather-filled outfits on the runway this past week, incorporating plumage into everything from oversized coats to dresses to capes.

Art Pop:
Fashion designers this season took a literal approach to the term “fashion is art” by translating both contemporary and abstract paintings onto clothing. Bring out your inner Picasso by sporting an artistic-inspired outfit!

Western Chic:
Calling all country girls! This Fall 2014 fashion trend is for you. Cowgirl getups were featured prominently on runways, so dig out all the Western garb you own, and get ready to rock this trend!

Emerald:
This green hue was all over the runways, and rightly so! Emerald is the perfect jewel tone for chilly fall days.  Try scooping up an emerald chunky knit sweater, or leather jacket as a fun new color staple in your wardrobe!

Renaissance Faire:
If you’re in the mood for a fairytale this season, you’re in luck! Many designers showcased renaissance inspired clothing trends including neck ruffs, and medieval painted dresses.
