How to replicate the Grammy fashion trends... at home

The biggest music event of the year took place this past weekend and had some major style standouts. Here are some of the major fashion trends we noticed, and how to replicate them at home!

Metallics/Sequins: Taylor Swift, Chrissy Teigen, and Ciara were all dripping with metallic sequins encrusted throughout the body of their gowns. If you’re looking to get your shine on in a metallic dress, keep it elegant! Add a pearl necklace, throw on a pair of black pumps, or wear your favorite shade of red lipstick. This is a surefire way to look like the belle of the ball!

Red-Hot: Miranda Lambert, Pink, and Colbie Caillat were all sporting red-hot numbers at the awards show, opting for dresses in sassy crimson hues. If you’re looking to wear red to make a dramatic statement at your next party or event, choose something well-tailored and sophisticated, as red is already sultry. Use black as your accessorizing color, whether it be your shoes, clutch, or jewelry.

Black and White Color Blocking: Sarah Hyland and Judith Hill both stunned in show-stopping black and white color blocked dresses. Try using black and white color blocking to your advantage, as a slimming technique! Wear a white dress with black accents on the sides to make your waist look smaller, or choose a black collared dress to draw attention to your face.

Sexy Cutouts: Paris Hilton, Anna Kendrick, and Louise Roe all chose to show some skin with sexy cutouts on their midriffs, thighs, or chest area. If you’d like to give this trend a try, choose a dress with cutouts on the area of your body you feel most comfortable with. Also, keep the look tasteful by limiting yourself to one or two cutouts per outfit- remember: a little peek goes a long way!

How to Dress Like Your Favorite Fashion Icons From History

Audrey Hepburn: Though her little black dress, oversized pearls, and dark sunglasses worn in the movie “Breakfast at Tiffany’s” made Audrey a huge fashion sensation, her personal style was more subdued. Ms. Hepburn’s essential clothing items included capris pants, feminine blouses, and silk scarves.  Her favorite accessories included floppy hats, ballet flats, and cat eye sunglasses.

Brigitte Bardot: As a fashion forward French actress and model, this blonde-haired beauty started clothing trends of her own. The “Bardot top” which shows off the collarbone, and ends at the shoulder is still a classic staple found in many women’s wardrobes today. Brigitte was also known for wearing mini skirts, headscarves, and black cat-eye liner.

Princess Diana: Though her Elizabeth & David Emanuel wedding dress initially put the Princess on the map, her momentum in the fashion world continued on. Diana was known for her elegant yet simplistic style. She often wore tailored blazers with denim pants to casual events, and accessorized with riding boots, belts, and pearl jewelry.

Jacqueline Kennedy: Jackie-O was not only the First Lady of the country, but also a leader in fashion. She took out uncomfortable stockings and tight waisted crinolines and replaced them with loose-fitting shift dresses and trendy pillbox hats. Now women everywhere were flocking to imitate her style. Jackie accessorized with oversized sunglasses, kitten heels, and gloves.

Forever Leather

Leather isn’t just for rock stars or bikers anymore. Think again, it’s been a while since we are all able to adopt this edgy sexy look, but usually many of us tend to use our favorite leather pieces during winter time only. Big Mistake: leather is one of the most versatile textures you can wear 365 days a year. So, I’ve got great news: This season Leather gets updated with new cuts and bright colors. We're already seeing new styles trickling in on the streets.
Because leather is so glossy and smooth, it makes a statement by itself no matter how you wear it. That's why it's important to look for leather clothing that you will feel comfortable wearing. Let’s pay attention to these useful tips:
- Leather is clingy and form-fitting by nature, which sometimes makes it difficult for curvier women to wear it.
- Avoid leather leggings and pants if you have thicker legs and stay away from bustiers and tight leather dresses if you have a round stomach.
- Leather jackets are flattering on almost everyone because there are so many different styles, but avoid cropped cuts if you are thick waisted, because this style will draw attention to your stomach.
- If you don’t want to look like Catwoman (I hope!), you can wear contrasting fabrics with your leather leggings or pants. Wearing all black can be slimming and sophisticated, but try adding other colors to your leather ensemble. Slip on white pants or skirts to complement a leather vest or wear blue jeans, a T-shirt and sneakers with a leather jacket for a laid-back look.
- If you're still too afraid to wear a leather statement piece, you can always wear leather boots with your jeans. Leather cuffs and headbands also allow you to incorporate the trendy fabric into your wardrobe, and leather gloves work wonderfully as driving gloves.

SPORTY CHICK

On your marks Ladies! The sporting life is taking over the spring this year for a look that is making us want to play ball. The Athletic look has been in the air recently with windbreakers, racer tanks and track pants in basically any material you can imagine, from silk to water-repellant wicking fabrics and technical mesh. We can’t deny that it’s great news to look chic in the most comfy and effortless way; the best part? It will suit you perfectly no matter what size you are.

One of the keys in this trend is the high contrast: hoodies, zippers, pinnies and even cricket knits are reimagined in black and white for some designers, giving this a street wear inspired spin; while others prefer to keep it more glamorous. Either way, let me tell you that wearing sporty fashion has never looked this cool before.

To embrace this look, try to add a zippered piece or add sporty details like leg warmers and ribbed knitwear to your everyday outfits, the idea here is adding athletic touches to already feminine looks. Another element to consider are the Bomber jackets, they are having a bit of a fashion moment right now thanks to this amazing trend. They’re perfect for pulling off sportswear inspired outfits and still look chic. For example Silk bomber jackets are so hot these days; and they’re the perfect combination of slouch and sophistication and of course we can’t forget the leather ones. Hooded jackets and surfer inspired wear with sparkling details and feminine shapes cinched at the waist are also an excellent choice.

Ok now, ready? Set.. Go!!
