Minimalist Resurrection

By now, I’d say that it's probably very safe to say that '90s style is sticking around. So, it may not be such a terrible idea to incorporate a piece or two from the pre-aught decade into your wardrobe (if you haven't done it already). The latest '90s trend to resurface, you ask? The slip dress, of course! The Spaghetti-strap dresses have had a grown-up makeover in beautiful and expensive fabrics; this effortless, sultry, and slightly grungy frock works just as well for lounging as it does for gallivanting about town.

While that’s all well and good for the waif, for us real women, the insubstantial dress begs further inquiry. Specifically: how do you wear a slip dress without looking like you just stepped out of your boudoir? If you feel slightly exposed in spaghetti straps like I do, feel free to add some layers on top of your slip dress. You’ll still get a peek of the slinky frock, but feel substantially more confident, which is the key to pulling off the look. Pay attention to a couple easy secrets to look amazing on this slinky number, so you’ll be slipping into something more comfortable in no time:

Tip 1: Tone down The Provocative Vibe. Feel out its vibe and then balance it with styling pieces that have an opposing feel. For example, try to temper the revealing slip with grunge essentials like a slouchy mohair cardigan and a plaid flannel.

Tip 2: Say Yes To Sophistication. I love how the filmy frock looks when styled with a sharp tuxedo coat and classic pumps for a polished effect. Opting for an elegant spin also keeps the lingerie-looking dress from entering hussy territory.
