WORLD CLASS STYLE

As we all have seen the World Cup team strips will provide a carnival of color and fashion, from Brazil's bright yellow shirts to the Netherlands' classic orange to Croatia's red checkered kit and the superhero-inspired looks of Mexico.  The 2014 tournament, which opened last Thursday, is delivering a myriad of culture, color and pattern this year. As usual, there’s a lot of talk about the outrageous vs. the understated, as the 2014 threads show off both and everything in-between. Fashion figures and magazines like GQ have finally released critiques of the uniforms and lists of the best and worst out there.

This year, however, the uniforms of the U.S. and Cameroon are among the most talked about so far for their (better) bold designs. Cameroon’s forest-green uniform – with a subtle cave painting-inspired pattern and smooth red ring around the collar -marks high on the best-dressed list this year. The American kit, which some have complained make the players looks like popsicles or Domino‘s pizza delivery men, wins the approval of others. It’s simple but bright color-blocking and clean lines are a trend this year in the legion of uniform designs.

Countries like Ecuador and Colombia have followed suit in the color-blocking trend with their bright yellows and blues; the color piecing on Colombia’s digs are meant to represent the rings of the country’s traditional “sombrero voltiao” hat. Others that went for the most simple or traditional looks include Argentina and France with their classic navy blues. About France, we can’t deny their inherent style and elegance in this year’s uniforms, showing a flawless preppy look.  Ghana was looking good with a patterned collar against classic, fresh white, the color England also chose and made more original after meeting with a typographer and creating their own font for the jerseys. Brazil spruced up their iconic color panels of yellow and green with a new, stylish tipped collar detail.

So, let us know what’s your favorite team?
