How to Choose Your Perfect Skirt

Sick of wearing the same old pair of blue jeans, or boring black slacks to the office?

Switch things up by wearing a skirt! Here are a few guidelines on how to find your perfect skirt:

Flatter your body typeFigure out which body parts you’d like to show off, and which you’d like to conceal. For example, women with pear shaped bodies look best in A-line skirts, as it will hide the hip area and make your legs appear smaller. Have more of a boyish figure? Try out a maxi skirt for a surefire way to add more substance to your look. The best skirts for short figures are tapered straight (slim) skirts and A-line skirts but avoid stiff A-lines as they can make you appear squat. Skirts with subtle tapering are ideal for curvy figures, and A-lines and wraparounds are also suitable. Choose the trumpet skirt if you're an hourglass lady, pear shape or a slim lady, as it creates soft curves.

Experiment with length: Nothing is more important than the length when it comes to finding the perfect skirt. A skirt that’s too long could make you feel frumpy, whereas a skirt that’s too short could come across as distasteful. Note where the hem falls. InStyle suggests that this should be on the leanest part of your legs, which is usually mid-thigh or just above or below the knee.

Go crazy with pattern: A patterned skirt is a quick way to jazz up an outfit. Pick a print that is fun, and expresses your personality! For a casual look, wear your patterned skirt with a denim button-up, or for a dressier look, throw a statement necklace over a solid colored top, and you have yourself an outfit! Just remember that patterns usually add volume, unless they are strategically placed.
