Family Photo shoot styling, Written for Naturally Pure Photography

What to wear for your family photo shoot!
Thinking of doing a family photo shoot and don’t know what to wear? I’ve got you covered! My name is juLia iLiadis, I’m a Fashion Stylist & Wardrobe Consultant and I will give you some tips which will make this process easier.
In this article for Naturally Pure Photography blog, we are going to explore the first step of the process for a successful photo shoot, which is to choose a color palette.  This is much easier done in the spring, because:
“Outdoor spring or summer colors will set a gorgeous background for your pictures and it will give you the advantage of choosing from a wider span of color options.”
Choosing a color palette consists of several steps, of which I will list the three most important:
1)      Start with one favorite piece of clothing, which will be the coordinating color for the whole family: it could be a bright textured sweater, a colorful blouse, or your daughter’s cute dress. My advice is: for a coordinating spring or summer color, make a bold color choice, which will stand out, like turquoise, orange, fuchsia or yellow as shown in the example below. A vintage piece of clothing can make a picture unique. Avoid busy patterns, big logos and shirts with text as they will take the focus away from you!
2)      Based on that color, choose your color palette for the family outfits (a great site is: http://design-seeds.com). A basic palette may consist of four colors, while one of them, is neutral. Make sure that the color used for the top each member is wearing (especially women) compliments her or his skin and hair undertones. While eye and hair color does not always indicate skin tone, most people that have blue, gray or green eyes and blonde, black or ash-brown hair look better on cool colors like royal blue, turquoise, emerald green, pink or fuchsia. Those with hazel, brown or black eyes and brown, black, auburn, red or strawberry blond hair, usually look better in warm colors like orange, sage green and yellow.
3)      Spread out the coordinated color-pops among everyone in the photo.  Layers and accessories are great tools to accomplice that. For example, cardigans, scarfs, necklaces, headbands and hats, add dimension, texture and richness to the overall look. I also love accessories because they show your personality.
A well thought out wardrobe will be one of the things that make your photograph stand out. You don’t have to stress out about your photo shoot. I can visit you at home and choose the outfits from your closet to coordinate the entire family. Also, if you are planning on hanging these pictures on your wall, I can choose color schemes for you, to compliment your home décor.
