ORANGE IS THE NEW BLACK
It’s a fact: this spring get ready for a touch of Orange in your
wardrobe! The fiery hue has been spotted all over the spring 2014
ready-to-wear shows, making its way from the season's It lip to clothes,
bags, and shoes. I know that many people find that orange is a really hard
color to pull off, and it usually isn't the color that we reach for first when
we open our closet. Surprisingly though, if you follow some simple rules for
wearing orange, it can be a very flattering color for most skin tones since in
instantly adds a natural glow to your skin.
There is a certain style power behind it all! You need to make sure you know how to wear the color before you go prancing out in something neon and flashing! You should check the shade to make sure it's right for you, and always wear orange in moderation with flattering colors (neutrals are great). I’ll share some tips:
1. Pair It with Yellow. There's nothing that screams summer like
tangerine and lemon mixed together. It's a color combo that works for anything.
The beach, the mall, the movies or dinner, whatever is on your schedule!
2. Throw on a Denim Jacket. Nothing makes the color orange pop like a
denim jacket does! Pair it with an orange dress for sweet style. And the cool
thing about this tip for wearing orange is that a denim jacket will really up
the hip quotient of a girly dress.
3. Don't Risk It with Black. Can anybody say "Halloween"?
Because that will be the only thing you bring to mind if you pair orange with
black. Just don't ever do it! I cringe at the mere thought! The only time that
black and orange might work together is if you have an item of clothing with a
pattern on it that the black and orange together. Say, a black scarf with
orange and green and blue flowers on it. Or black flats with orange and white
detailing. But please do steer clear of pairing black an orange together unless
it's October!
4. Wear It with White. Here's your best tip for wearing orange yet:
Think white! Hot orange paired with white works like magic! And for this color
combo, do accessorize with blue. Preferably navy blue, you will look so pulled together!

How to wear prints
Bold, expressive patterns were shown in every possible way this season. A variety of expressions such as die-cuts, typography or
woodblocks are now more relevant than ever. During the last year patterns have
taken the back seat, but the good news is that spring 2014 appears to be
the season of the print! From those with a painterly quality to those influenced
by international cultures, the Print is here to stay. Geometric shapes, bold
brush strokes Mondrian-inspired grids, color-swatch paint splashes,
illustrative portraits as well as animal, jungle and floral prints, checks and
stripes. I can easily predict that printed garments will flood onto the high
street ready for spring and summer.
If you are suffering from “Pattern-Phobia”, at this point, keep in mind the
following tips: when using prints you have to let them make a statement all on
their own; just be sure to balance them out with a simplistic piece. Also, choosing
prints on a darker background can help anyone look thinner. Believe it or not,
clothing that is completely patterned actually give you a slimming look, clothing
is busy with pattern, but there is no single focal point to draw your eye to. For
a polished look, make sure your accessories and shoes are a solid matching
color. However, be careful with floral: If your tummy is an issue, create a vertical line with a long necklace. Also, avoid
printed long sleeves. They’ll just add more inches to your width. Another way
to use print is mixing them up; it can be very stylish, but it could also be
tricky. You need to choose prints that have at least one color in common to
pull them together.
Remember that Print has always had a role to play in fashion and textile
design over the years, and continues to be a directional influence in fashion. As
textile and garment printing techniques, inks and materials evolve and generate
new opportunities, print will remain part of fashion industry.
