LAYERing - How to stay warm and stylish

It’s definitely cold out there and these layering tips for the winter will help you achieve that artfully layered look with your outfits. Many people are afraid to try layers for fear of looking bigger than they actually are. Let me tell you something: layering is all about creativeness and versatility; it’s undoubtedly a smart way to dress considering functionality and proportions in first place, using a number of lightweight clothes that you can add or remove. Staying warm these days doesn’t have to be directly proportional to the thickness of your clothes, once you’re aware of your figure, you could try a couple of extra layers by using your favorites knits without forgetting which ones are the more flattering items. Remember that a well layered look will create the illusion of a more balanced silhouette by complimenting your curves.

how to wear layers to keep warm

To create the perfect layered outfit first you need to identify those basic pieces that I’m sure you have in your wardrobe. You need to start with a basic top that you have to keep more fitted in order to look slim: something neutral or solid would be ideal. Add the next layer by using a sweater, a cardigan or maybe a bold pullover. After that you’ll be able to add a nicely cut jacked or coat for a more tailored effect; again I’d strongly suggest a neutral color such as black, navy or camel. Finally, add some magic with a scarf and don’t forget the right accessories (rings, bracelets, a watch...). Well, now you are ready to master the art of layering!

TAR-TAN the new must have!

‘Check’ what’s becoming big news this season: From Moschino to Chanel, Tartan is the new must have. This timeless pattern is a fabric made of geometric design lines of colors and different proportions, usually associated with Scottish kilts. Dresses, skirts and even jumpers are indisputably the garment of the season that cannot miss in your wardrobe.

However, one important thing to consider when using this iconic print is that traditionally the colors are dark and high contrast, which means that it will add some volume to the figure making you look a bit fuller so you need to keep in mind your body shape. Classic items such a good pair of trousers, a skirt or an overcoat will last you years, especially if you decide to opt for neutral tones and clean cuts.

Get inspired with these pieces that evoke the days of school uniform and add your personal style with a wide range of options whether you choose to look grungy or preppy. Step up your game by mixing different trends in a subtle way to highlight the impact of your tartan favorite piece for the autumn/winter: leather jackets, oxford shoes, vest shirts, and comfy sweaters could be the perfect match.

This major Scottish invasion is not leaving anyone behind; guys are getting in on the action too. One of the advantages of this trend is the fact that it’s unisex, so menswear lines are hitting the streets with amazing pieces that include tailored jackets, structured blazers, sweaters and skinny-legged pants combined with different textures and colors to show a fresh look. However, if you feel that an entire suit is too much you can try to incorporate small details such as the classic scarf, a bow or even a tartan belt. Be brave, it’s the scottish way!
